The Breed:

The Toy Fox Terrier was developed from the smooth Fox Terrier. Between 1912 and 1936, standard-size and 'runt' Fox Terriers were registered with the United Kennel Club, but in 1936, the U.K.C. began registering the Toy Fox Terrier (TFT) separately.

Sturdy and Sassy:

It is the TFT's temperament and intelligence that attract loyalists. No shrinking violet, this toy breed is above all a Terrier; alert, sassy, and wired for action. The TFT's intelligence is legendary. The TFT looks into your eyes as if it is trying to read your mind and tries as hard as it can to talk to you. Fortunately for those who own them, Toy Fox Terriers are a long lived breed. Buying a puppy can be a 15 year obligation. Part of this breed's longevity can be attributed to the health and vigor typical of the Terrier heritage. Couple this with ease of maintenance (no expensive grooming) and a meager appetite and it's easy to see that a TFT is a dog that can prosper almost anywhere, from an apartment to a farm.

Conformation:

The modern Toy Fox Terrier is longer of leg and flatter of skull than the early TFTs. The Toy Fox Terriers we raise are two sizes finishing in weights from 4 1/2 to 7 lbs. We have heard of TFTs as small as 3 pounds, but we have never had one. The TFT is short of coat with naturally erect ears. The ears of the puppies are sometimes up as early as four weeks. White and Black with Tan accent is the standard color. Black and White or Tan and White are acceptable.
